ABOUT US

We are the Etobicoke (West Toronto) chapter of CFUW.

Our club is one of 95 clubs consisting of 7000 members across Canada . We are committed to pursuing knowledge, promoting education, improving the status of women and girls and actively participating in public issues.

Every year, a member of the Etobicoke club Executive attends the CFUW Annual General Meeting at which national policies and strategies are discussed and annual reports are presented.

The Etobicoke Club sets aside the March General Meeting to debate resolutions sent from CFUW National to fulfill our advocacy role. If you would like to be involved in the process, please contact the Chair of the Advocacy Group.

We are also members of CFUW Ontario Council. Ontario Council has Standing Committees in Legislation, Education, and Status of Women and Human Rights, which were developed to keep members aware of current issues in Ontario. The Committees meet three times a year – in September, January, and March in downtown Toronto – for a day with speakers, workshops and discussion
Our Club participates at the Standing Committees, representing the views of our Club’s members, and at the regional gatherings. We encourage our Club members to attend Ontario Council events. If you would like more information, please contact the Etobicoke Club’s President.

Our newsletter is published monthly from September through June.General meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month from September to May.  Our meetings are in-person at Fairfield Seniors Centre. Join us for a social time at 7:00 (bring your own mug). The Speaker and Business Meeting follows at 7:30pm.

Generally our interest groups meet either on monthly basis (e.g. Hiking the GTA); or weekly (e.g. our popular Walk and Talk group). Members may meet at Fairfield, at members homes, at a specified location for a specific activity. Our interest groups are smaller and provide opportunity for learning, activity and friendship. We encourage members to start new groups if they have a passion they would like to share.

CFUW Etobicoke has a Charitable Trust which provides bursaries to University of Toronto, York University, Toronto Metropolitan University and Humber College/University of Guelph.  An endowment has been established at York University.  Our club also supports Etobicoke’s two women’s shelters, the Daily Bread Food Bank and other community organizations.

The 215+ members of CFUW Etobicoke find our club to be friendly, fun and interesting. You are invited to join us. For more information, please click Join (top menu – last item) or contact us by Email.

Our Mission is to continue to enhance our role as a national, bilingual, independent organization striving to promote equality, social justice, fellowship and lifelong learning for women and girls.
